Sexual Health

We offer advice on your sexual and reproductive health that is tailored to you.  This includes contraception – including long acting forms of contraception, testing and treating for sexually transmitted infection, advice about healthy relationships & sexuality, Cervical smears, difficulties with menstruation, and referrals for abortion

Prenatal Care

We can see you to confirm a positive pregnancy test, get you started on appropriate prenatal supplements for a healthy pregnancy and discuss ultrasounds and integrated maternal screening as well as support you if you were to develop complications in pregnancy (such as bleeding or ectopic pregnancy). Once you start your second trimester there are midwives that are co-located in our building that work for Northland DHB and can take care of you throughout the rest of your pregnancy

Breast Health

We offer assistance with a variety of breast problems including assessing you if you have noticed a lump, are concerned about a breast infection and offer clinical advice if you are breastfeeding.  Northland DHB have a breast screening bus that comes to Dargaville twice yearly so you can have your routine screening mammogram done closer to home (for women aged 45 – 69).  You may need screening outside of this window due to family or personal history so please speak to us so we can ensure you get the screening that you require.

Menopause Support

Menopause is a natural process that occurs as your ovaries gradually stop producing estrogen resulting in you eventually stopping having periods.  This can happen quickly or it can take several years.  Menopause can cause a variety of symptoms including vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances, hot flushes and changes in your period followed by your period stopping altogether.  These symptoms can be challenging in your busy life and we can offer advice as to how to manage these and keep you well.

Pelvic Floor Weakness

This is a common problem for many women and can result in issues with urinary incontinence, prolapse and pelvic pain which are very disruptive symptoms to have. We can examine you and offer solutions such as pelvic floor exercises, physiotherapy referrals, pessaries and in some instances referring you to a specialist.
